about lift
The musical Lift by Craig Adams is about love, life, and loss, seen through the thoughts of a busker during a 54-second elevator ride ascending to the surface in the London Underground network. The station in question is Covent Garden Underground Station, one of the few Underground stations in London where passengers leave the station by elevator rather than escalator.
The busker projects the lives of the seven strangers in the elevator onto herself. She imagines their stories, revolving around unrequited love, secret relationships, and hidden identities, in order to work through her own dilemmas and struggles.
We want to portray the transitions between the Busker’s thoughts and what is actually happening as clearly and effectively as possible. In many ways, the Busker functions as the director of the piece. From within the elevator, she steps into her imagination and guides the characters inside it. We want these transitions to be visually and emotionally clear, allowing the audience to follow the story and its emotional arc as smoothly as possible.

"Vocally, the quality was very strong! The band was also top-notch! And performing a show in English is always a risky choice with Dutch accents 😉. But it was very easy to follow, so it was clearly something you paid attention to. Very nice!"
"We came all the way from Antwerp to see you perform. We were told you were just a group of friends who threw together a musical, without budget, prior experience, a director, etc. Truly impressive!!! ‘Over the Moon’ was extraordinarily hilarious; beautiful in its simplicity."
"I thought it was AMAZING — I laughed hard and cried hard. I found out about the show via a theatre website, so I didn’t know anyone in the cast, but you were absolutely amazing and I hope you’ll do more musicals I can come see! The casting was really well done."
"Your level was honestly so good. We were only expecting to see an amateur production. What a stroke of luck for us! The musical itself is beautiful, but with your joy and vocal talent, you really brought the show to life. (And thank goodness you performed it in English!)"
